Most kids in America go to school each year. 3 percent out of 100 percent of kids are homeschooled. That means 97 percent of the population goes to school.
Now, I’ll start at the beginning. What do I think about the concept of learning?
Ever since the beginning of time people learned things. But, sometimes you do not even know you are learning. How to walk, for example. You don’t go to school to learn how to do that, but you are still learning.
I just don’t like how now a day, you learn some things in school that will not help you at all. Some things, will be very useful, but others not. Grammar is one of those examples. Punctuation is important, where diagramming is just rotting your brain.
A big part of school, or learning anything, is persevering. Anything, and almost everything, is hard the first time you try. But if you keep to it, and work hard, you will eventually get it. Now, don’t get confused. As you may see in movies, to master something is to never give up. And, being a kid with two sisters that love princess movies, I see that a lot. I hate how in princess movies everything is happily ever after. Nobody ever cries, or gets mad over anything. When are they going to stop dreaming and face reality? But unlike what happens in those movies, to master something is to sweat, wake up early, experience pain, and then you will achieve it.
Anyway, as you know, kids are homeschooled sometimes. As I stated before, 3 percent out of 100 percent of kids are homeschooled in present time. So, as you can tell, homeschooling is very rare. I’ve been homeschooled for most of my life, and love it.
I love the freedom. We homeschool year round. I know that just sounds wrong, but it makes it a lot easier for us during the year. We can take days off when we need to. My cousins and grandparents always come from Florida during Christmas for a month. Usually kids in school get two weeks off, but we get four weeks off because we did some of our schoolwork in the summer. It helps us spend more family time, and we get to relax more.
I love how you can be helped. If you have trouble with something, you can spend time working on it. Most kids have a hard time on something. When you’re home schooled, you can spend as much or as little time as you need on things.
And, I love how you can take trips. We have gone to many interesting places, and done many interesting things.
Another thing I love is that if you have an interest, you can explore it. If I weren’t home schooled, I wouldn’t have this blog you are reading. I love to sew, and I wouldn’t have the time to do that if I were in school. I think exploring things is an important part of learning.
Also, it has been great with moving. Because we are home schooled, we don’t have to worry about all the drama with having to find a new school. I know it would have been really difficult if we weren’t homeschooling.
So, no matter how you look at it, homeschooling is a great thing.
It is better than going to school? I don’t know.
While it certainly has its pluses, going to school does too.
You are around more kids. You can make friends more easily. We go to groups, so we have an opportunity to make friends some days. But, going to school gives you more of an opportunity to make friends, because you are around the same people all year.
The Classroom experience. Watching videos on a smart board, having recess, and even just being in a classroom are things that you will never experience if you don’t go to school.
So, to end this post,
School, whether homeschool or actual school, is a great experience for all ages.
I really enjoyed reading your prospective on this. Very interesting and well said! Reading your blog is to travel through life’s journey and all different experiences it includes, through someone else’s eyes, their feelings, their thoughts and views is such an awesome thing especially when it is a loved one. It sheds new light, enthusiasm and surprise in this journey we call life. I was never home schooled and I don’t even know if it was even barely heard of back then, but what a great subject to ponder! Thank you.
I’m so glad you liked it! Would you have wanted to be homeschooled when you were little?
Yes, I think back then if I had that option, I would have probably jumped at the chance to be homeschooled, for sure!
Yeah. What school did you go to?
From kindergarten through 5th grade I went to New WIndsor School,
6th to 8th grade I went to St. Francis School,
9th grade I went to South Junior High school
and 10th-12th I went to NFA (Newburgh Free Academy)
My favorite time in school and my favorite school was absolutely,New WIndsor school! I lived 2 houses away from the school and walked to school, just a little additional fun fact!
Good Post Ami! Now I want to be homeschooled! LOL
Lol! How do you like your school?
I like it.
