Since I’ve been playing with my friends a lot recently, I came up with a list of kid-friendly games that cost nothing, and you could play them for hours. I’m going to use the names Jack and Annie to explain the games.
1. Finish The Word
In this game your goal is to finish a word. Jack will start off by saying a letter. Annie will then have to add on a letter, thinking of a word in her head. Then Jack will go, and the players keep going back and forth until the word is finished. Whoever finishes the word gets a point, and whoever gets five points first wins!
Example: Jack- W, Annie- H, Jack- I, Annie- T, Jack- E. The word is white, and Annie cannot add any more letters, therefore Jack gets a point.
2. Categories
The goal of this game is to quickly think. Annie will choose a category, and lets just say she picks sports. Jack and Annie will go back and forth naming things from that category until one person can’t think of any more.
Example categories: Sports, TV shows, vegetables, fruits, types of candy, holidays, books, animals, pets, colors, Etc.
3. Two Truths and One Lie
Pretty much, for this game your aim is to guess which one is a lie. Annie will say two things that are true about her, and then one that is fake, in a random order. Jack will then have to guess which one is the lie. If he gets it right he gets a point, and if not, Annie gets a point.
4. Never Have I Ever
In this game, Jack will start by saying, “Never have I ever (Names something he’s never done).” Then if the other people have, they raise their hands. There is really no winning or losing in this game, but its a fun way to get to know people, and it is better to play it with a large group of friends.
5. This or That?
To start this game, Jack will ask Annie a question, for example, strawberries or blueberries? And Annie will answer with the one she likes best. You keep going back and forth from player to player, learning more about each other and having fun!
Example questions: Fruits, books, movies, TV shows, sports, holidays, seasons, hobbies, foods, colors, etc.
